Christmas 1981
1981 was an interesting year. One item in particular changed my life utterly. Hint: It was not my new sweater. Sears used to have a kiosk with a bunch of 2600 games built into it.  This was before the mall even had an arcade in it.  I used to make certain that I got included on any trip that went anywhere near Sears, for this reason.  I didn’t even have to play it, I just stood there and...

Civilian Conservation Corps Documentary
Netflix has a PBS documentary on the CCC. My grandpa said it was the best job he ever had. Take 50 min and watch it, and it’ll change the way you think about old people, what they did and how their values are. The documentary is by Robert Stone, titled “The Civilian Conservation Corps”.

We were quite favorably reviewed
http://www.rawrcast.com/2011/05/the-daily-fan-did-you-see-that/ My podcast (Bad Movie Podcast) got top billing in the Rawrcast roundup of B movie shows.  It’s nice to be in the same club with the other two shows that were featured, since they’re done by actual paid professionals.

Paradox of Choice
I suffer from a crippling defect.  Given a range of too many good choices, I have a crisis.  Even for trivial things - in fact I think moreso for trivial things.  Let’s take the example of a restaurant menu.  I can sit and stare over a menu all day, and never be able to pick just one thing.      Too many equally valued options is a tar pit for me.  Decisions are hard enough already....

An accounting of my IT skills
I wrote up a description of my current job skill set, areas of expertise, and whatnot. This is what I arrived at: Storage Admin: Designed, implemented and manage EMC Clariion SAN. Manage LUN provisioning and fiber channel path switching. Migrating to iSCSI connectivity.  VMware Virtualization Admin: Created VMWare ESX deployment from ground up - now encompassing 3 ESX servers, 50 guest servers,...

School of DERP - Tractor Battery
Time to mow the yard for the first time this year.  Dead tractor battery.  Well, ok, it’s 4 years old so I can see that.  I go get a new one.   Tractor with new battery is making a ZZZZING! noise from the starter.  Odds of the starter and battery dying in unison, like lemming lovers going off a cliff hand in hand, are pretty slim.  So I investigate.  Fuse isn’t blown, but the wiring...

King Kong Escaped
Just finished watching King Kong Escapes. It’s like a Godzilla movie with no Godzilla in it. Now, let me ask you… if you had to mine something, would you do this with a drill or would you build a super complex robot monkey to do that job? Right. Now, if that robot monkey broke down, would you then try the drill plan, or would you go kidnap King Kong and hypnotize him to get him to do...
